On Sunday me and 2 other guys decided to go hit up Yarnell Hill, a bad ass canyon road by Prescott. I was doin real good, felt nice and comfortable and not pushing too hard. I made it 3/4 of the way to the top and was taking this left hander at about 45mph and then there was an immediate right hander . The next thing i know i see this dipshit coming up underneath me, so i had to pull up a bit. I started to go wide and i looked at the guard rail (target fixation is a bitch). Then i realized i wasnt going to make it so i straighted up the bike and started to get on the brakes. Next thing i know im on a 400 lb. dirtbike with slicks, locking up my tires, pumping the brakes while trying to not go off of a 1000ft drop off. I go inbetween the gaurd rail and a poll, plow threw 4 or 5 bushes and luckily come to a stop on 2 wheels. Once i came to a stop, there was about 2 feet in front of me until the cliff, about 5 feet to the right of me was the cliff and about 6 inches to the left of me was the guard rail.

I dont know how i kept it on 2 wheels, but i did. The only damage to the bike is some scratches on the front fender, both of the side panels, my headlight and my rims. I also got a huge chunk of wood stuck in my rear tire, which i had to ride about 150 miles on to get home.

So all in all it was a good ride, im alive and my bike can be ridden again. Probably not in the twisties again but i think its time to start goin to the track.

CLIFFS:

I wish every one knew that, it should say that in the owners manual.

It says it in the MSF manual...i think if you haven't been through that course or a similar one you shouldn't be on a sport bike.

yeah, i know it says it in the msf manual but how many 18 year olds go out and buy an r1 or a busa with their mommy's credit card and dont even know what MSF stands for.

I do agree with you, if you havent been through MSF you shouldnt be riding on the streets.

In Oregon and Washington you need to take the class if you are 18 or under to get your liscense

When we ride as a club through the twisties anywhere we go we will set down the rules before going out. On a road you shouldnt be passing other bikes unless they know you are going to by signaling you to pass. Not only that but the experienced riders in front and the less experienced in the rear of the pack which also makes for less passing. Too many accidents happen on roads and it makes the biker community look irresponsible. Good to hear you made it through though. Out at Tortilla i fixated my eyes and ended up locking my rear coming to hot into a turn. I ended up about 2 ft from the drop off because most of tortilla doesnt have guard rails.

Im glad to here you guys like to set some ground rules for riding. Once i do decide to go on another run threw some twisties i would much rather ride in a large pack of riders (like with you guys). so that it will be harder for some rookie that thinks he is fast to come up and almost hit me when im trying to go slow cuz there are cars in front. When there are lots of bikes not many people will try to start picking people off to get to the front.
