good read, it also looks like it was just as much a precautionary tale for those that are racing too...

Its a decent write-up that contains some important (and obvious) information. However Im still confused as to why you're raggin on the track-day riders with your "Heros" comment. Which by the way, is spelled incorrectly!
Me? I consider them/us ALL heroes because they/we choose to get out there and actually use the bike for which is intended - cornering and going fast. Better they build their ego on the track than save the race passes for the public freeways.
Congratulations to the few that actually "race." You have earned yourself a title that will surely be respected amongst the Gods. But keep in mind, we all have to start somewhere.
To all the track day riders - keep pushin' those limits and don't let anyone give you shit. Have fun and be safe!

^ Well said Woodsie.. We do have to start some where. I was scared shitless the first time out on a track. I believe you have to get a bunch of track days in before you race.

In addition to my previous post...
Speaking from personal experience as both a "heroic track day rider" and a "racer" - depending on your perspective, the main difference between the two is MONEY! The individual that wrote this half-assed article speaks of competition. I'll tell you what, when I'm at a track day, I'm constantly competing! Whether it be against road conditions, timers, or my own limitations - its still a competition.

I kinda just skimmed the article but what I get is whoever wrote it has been around the block lol. Maybe he didn't make it and maybe he did. I dont know.
But there is some good info/precautions in there if you cut out the kind of bitter tone the writer seems to have. A lot of people on here, including myself, have been talking about going track/racing. Do we know it is going to cost an arm and a leg? Of course. But I could see how if I was racing for years and years, the trackday "hero" would get pretty annoying after awhile and I am sure it would get to a point where any trackday rider that thought he was good enough to race I would probably scoff at.
Regardless, if this is a sport that people are trying to grow...the article doesn't really help imho. Obviously your chances of making it to AMA or anything of the sort are slim to none. But the prospect of having a .02% chance getting into AMA or having a sponsored ride is not why people do it. It's something else. Much like why we ride in the first place.

Sensitive in regards to this subject? A lil. But keep in mind, I take a lot of pride in my accomplishments and find it a bit disrespecting that you give us the title of "heroes." The fact that you put that in quotes usually means one thing - sarcasm. .
for all you trackday "heros" heres a good little read for you.
I could be wrong but maybe by putting it in quotes, Jason was meaning it sarcastically..but to the author of the article. Just a thought

I think it makes a ton of valid points. I thought it was a good read. I especially like the part of wanting to go MotoGP level you better start at the age of 5. It's so true.
