I am not a lubrication, filtering, chemical or mechanical engineer. I have a degree in engineering, but I studied electrical engineering. I now study physics. You may feel free to question my abilities to gather facts and draw conclusions in the area of oils and filters. In any case, this is a write up of what I learned in about 75 hours of research on this topic. My only interest is having my motorcycle run forever, never break, and be easy to maintain.

cliffs would be to pretty much use synthetic in your streetbike if you ride it hard at all. other than that it is a good read and worth the time if you care neough

I use castral car oil, or if I can afford it at the time the reg. castral motorcycle oil. I run mine hard too, but my motor does sound like a ticking time bomb, haha

The kind of oil you use isn't too important, on a street bike. Synthetic will give you slightly higher resistance to engine heat, but you guys with radiators don't need to worry about that, as your radiator will keep your temperature in check, thus maintaining the viscosity of the oil. If you're running an air-cooled mill, you might feel better with synthetic. Clutch feel can vary with oil, but that's going to be a personal thing, just try as many oils as possible until you find the one that works best for you. The most important part of oil is changing it regularly.
CHECK THE API SEAL! Here's what it looks like:

Notice the two on the left, that say ENERGY CONSERVING, in the bottom of the seal? Stay the hell away from any oil that has that. It contains friction modifiers that will render your friction plates in your clutch useless. Other than that, pick your poison.
