Hello all, I met some of you today at the SRD car wash, and some of you may know me from AZ350Z. I drive the 03 Black Tiburon. I've always liked bikes, and always intrested in learning to ride, and would be intrested in a little help/feedback on whats a good bike to start off with, one not to expensive, something I could take around the block and get used to on the weekends, before I go all out.
I'm not looking for something thats gonna burn a hole in my pocket, just something to have a little fun with while taking it around, all feedback would be great, and thanks!

Motorcycle safety foundation it is a three day course set up for no experience riders where you get 8 hours class room instruction and I believe 8 hours on a bike provided by the organization. By taking the course and passing their test they will give you a voucher and you take that to the DMV and they give you your licence no test needed at the DMV well worth the money!

take the course then look into getting a bike. The bikes there are smaller and you might just wanna get a bike that size to start off on. Id suggest a 250,500, or a 600 (bit more expensive)

How much would a used 250 be looking to cost around? Ya know?

DO NOT GET A 250! You will want something bigger in 2 days.
Just get a 600 and call it good. Get like a mid 90's honda. Like and f3.... they usually go for about 3k in fair shape.

yea you would be safe with a Honda f3 or honda f4 or even a honda f4i. There all going to be fairly cheap and all 600cc's

And they are BULLET proof, hence being good stunt bikes.... Hell even an late 90's honda 900 wouldn't be bad for you, like a 954 or a 929 or something.

get a used 250. its something that you can drop and not be worried about. you can usually sell the bike for what you paid for it as well...
+100000 on the MSF course.
its fun, entertaining and you will learn a lot. Like how to dodge cats

+1 on the MSF first.
+1 on Honda Fsomething. My first was an F2.
-1 on the 250. Youll outgrow it too fast and the jump to a 500 or 600 is great enough that you could almost be riding a bicycle.
IMO - DO NOT join a rider group yet. Get some time under yer belt on yer own first. Get comfortable at yer own pace. Learn yer own limits... and when yer rdy for more advanced skills, start looking for advice. Groups like this are a GREAT place for that, but often times the temptation for new riders to hang w/ the pack is so great, they endanger themselves and the group.
OR you can do what I did. Buy a bike, cash, w/ 0 knowledge on riding. :twocents Scratch yer head trying to figure out how to get it home. :umm Go buy a game card at Gameworks and spend half an hour on ManxTT. Practice 1st and 2nd gear in front of your friends house for another 30mins, then ride 2hrs north up I-17 w/ no helmet, leathers, license, insurance, or plate. :bike:

I'll look into some prices, and maybe call a few dealerships up within the next couple of days. Look into the classes, is the one that gets you the pass so you don't have to take the test or anything the 275 one?

agreed with some of the other guys
- take the MSF, you'll learn the basics, and you might even discover that riding isn't for you
- if you still want to ride (hopefully you do) get a 600, anything lower and you'll be regretting it after not long

you dont have to keep up with the other guys either. thats why i get left in the dust on EVERY ride. i dont feel comfortable going at the speeds that most of these guys do just yet. if you try to keep up, you will most likely hurt yourself until you get the basics down pat

Yeah, I appreciate all the great advice, and the help that you guys have been giving me. :) I think it something that I should really tend to look, as well as it never hurts to try. I will wait around for the deal of a lifetime to come about getting a bike, ill call around and see what I can do, maybe save up some money first.

Oh and welcome ot the board and go take that MSF, then see if you even like riding before you drop a bunch of money. Some people take the class and realize riding is not something they like

Theres a good pt. Riding is not for everyone. Generally, its inconvenient, uncomfortable, and dangerous. I had my F2 for a while and sold it because I thought riding wasnt for me. Soon after I sold it, I realized what I was missing and bought the RR, but even now, Ill admit I dont have the bug up my ass about it that some of these guys do. I just need to get it out of my system so I can say I did it, before I settle down w/ my Ferrari.

Yeah for sure take the class. I took mine at Team Arizona was great learned a lot. I would say for sure get a 600 used. You will be able to ride it for a long time and really enjoy it. A 250 is just too small and you will hate it on day one.
