Kim Martinez reports

It happened at about 1:30 Friday morning.
DPS Sgt. Harold Sanders the off-duty officer, who has been identified as 27-year veteran George Aguilera, was in his personal vehicle heading south on I-17 behind a motorcycle when he hit the motorcycle.
The impact sent the driver of the motorcycle tumbling onto the freeway. A commercial vehicle that was behind both the motorcycle and Aguilera's car ran over the motorcyclist.
That motorcyclist, a 26- or 27-year-old Phoenix man, is in critical condition, Sanders said.
Investigators are talking to Aguilera to try and determine what happened.
"We have not gotten a definitive answer as to what occurred to cause him to drive into the motorcycle," Sanders said.
It's not clear if alcohol or other impairment was a factor in the wreck, but Sanders said he believes Aguilera could faces charges of aggravated assault.
"The impairment if it's there will only be additional," Sanders said.
That section of I-17 will be closed until DPS wraps up its investigation.

F*cking Cops man. I hope he gets jail time for that.

Even if he does get time for it, he will never see general population. The convicts would make sure "something" happened. Of course with todays judicial system it could be 2 years before that happens.

I hope the rider makes it, my thoughts go out to his family.

That cop had to have been going fast as shit or the guy on the bike was moving like a snail for the bike to be embedded in the front end of the car like that...shit man...

At 130a, traffic musta been clear. If one was doing 75, the other HAD to have been doing 150, or about 37mph minimum to get that kind of result where the bike is imbedded like that. Unless the rear suspension from the bike had enough travel where the front end of the car was able to lodge in between the rear tire and fender, effectively "clamping" onto the car. Either way, very strange. Hope the riders ok.

On a lighter side, shit does happen sometimes, but the police officer might have been distracted or something. . .like with all the alcohol in his system that will never make it on paper. Not saying that this is the case, but it could be.

I hope the rider makes it.

Good for you. Im sick of cops getting away w/ shit wed get strung up for. The other night I was at the bar until closing, and watched 2 cops get into their trucks and drive away PISS DRUNK. I called em in and reported their plates. I also do that whenever I see one speeding without his lights on or blow a stop light. Nothing ever comes of it, but it makes me feel better. I just wish I could pull em over and issue them a citation.

Citizen's arrest?

Varitec1

Yeah, i looked into that. Different states have different laws on it, and you better be an expert those laws, cause you open yerself up to a WIDE range of liability issues. Especially if your not a professional in the field like a bounty hunter or such. Theres also the retaliation aspect of narcing on cops in a small town, where most people know everyone else.

I wonder is that cop asking to retire to avoid prosecution. There was a cop from Dearborn, Mi who was caught stealing drugs from suspects and selling or taking them, who left the force to avoid repercussions.
I hope the family files a civil suit or something...
