Broke my chain on my R6 which broke a piece out of the crank case, dumping oil everywhere.
Anyone have any experience with fixes for this?
Thanks.

Did it break the case or the case cover? If its the cover you can just get a new one...but if its an actual part of the casing then you are looking at pulling the motor and replacing the case...
My old dirtbike had a cracked case and I drained all the oil, cleaned the hell out of it with degreaser, then used rubber gasket maker and just coated the shit out of it. It worked but if it was the street bike I would have pulled the motor and replaced the case. Blowing that seal and having oil blow out is NOT something that would be fun on the street.

If it cracked the case cover just buy one on ebay.
If it broke the case and you are not losing oil you might be able to get away without repairing it but it should be looked at by someone if you dont know what you are looking for.
If it broke though to any oil areas you are looking at a major rebuild no matter what. Your options would be Ebay motor and just replace it. Alterntivily you could just get a lower engine case and master rebuild kit and rebuild the motor.

I had a case tig welded once and it still leaked because oil impregnates aluminum too much. If you get a lower case you have to get a new upper too, they are a matched set and cost about $1200. Call Bobs cycle salvage about a used motor and just swap the whole thing...

yup, if you cracked the case cover easy fix. if it cracked the actual block. gonna have to replace the whole block. did you have your chain guards on?

Sir JB Weld to the rescue. If you jb weld the case it should be fine. If you have to jb weld part of the block back near the crank case ( VERY VERY BAD), the jb weld is slightly porous, so you may still get tiny oil saturation through the "weld". It can be done, I have seen a chunk of engine block get ripped from a motor along with the motor mount and it was jb welded back on and sent off to race the next day (rally car). Yes, the entire area remained slightly damp with oil, but it got the job done.

Thanks for all your replies ...
I figured I was looking at a new engine - but was hoping someone had a cheaper/easier solution. I thought about piecing it back together with JB Weld, but I'm not certain it would work in this area, and be secure enough that it wouldn't cause me further issues later on.

yea your going to need a whole new case / motor... With a bearing pressed in right behind where the damaged spot is you really don't have any repair options and i wouldn't personally feel comfortable repairing a case that has a piece that large missing
that sucks man good luck with getting if fixed.. its time to look on ebay for a crate motor

Yeah what Kevin said. And even if you could somehow patch it, if that patch blew out while you were moving, you would be beyond fucked. Speaking from experience, oil, asphalt, rear tires, and turning... do not mix.

If you have the piece still, put it back on and jb weld over it. Without the piece, its gonna be pretty interesting. I would do everything I could not to replace the engine, but I can't tell where that part of the case is. Maybe a photo zoomed out a little bit so we can start throwing ideas at you
