So most people who go to the track know how I ride out there... not fast lol. Now that we got the "nick is slow" shit out of the way. I need new tires, after riding Steves bike I need new tires. So for how I ride what are your recommendations? I know I don't need slicks but I don't want regular pilot powers.

I am definitely not a big fan of Dunlop but I think a set of Q2's would be great for you. They are sticky and won't break your account. My .02

Im not fast either nick. Its cool. I run pirelli take offs... super sticky, I can get several track days out of a set since im running more in the middle of the side, the carcass is flexible.. but u have to run warmers with them. (I don't know if u have been)

And for my level I like the take offs cause they are good on the price for exactly what I want...

Just my. 02 cents and I know several racers that swear by the supercorsas.

I would slap on a set of power pures on there. Jason was running only a couple seconds slower then I was on them and maybe even faster now since March. You don't need warmers with them, set them at 30, 30 cold and give it a lap or two for them to warm up and your set. Just ask Jason how much life he has gotten out of his. You need a new set not necessarily a whole new brand. With take offs and race tires I think you would have the problem of not being able to keep them up to temp and like Becca said would need warmers. Part of the problem of not keeping them up to temp is they arent as tacky and sticky and they cold tear which lowers the life of the tire. I would stick with a high performance street tire.

+1 on the pures. I was using them and becca said she timed me at a 2:06. Not to mention I had 4k miles and 2 track days on them with quite a lot of life left.

Tom I believe has 10k miles and 2 track days and is probably good to go for another couple thousand miles

Agreed on the reasons why u would need warmers...

pures are fine if u want to pay 300 or 400 a set (idk i havent bought street tires in years it feels like) or half that for take offs and buy warmers with the extra money and enjoy the heck out of going out with hot sticky awesome track tires on the track...

Going to the track is something u like to do all the time.. invest in good stuff like warmers and good track tires.

Im not saying take offs are the best... i just think they are just good option for the price what he's doing..

Problem with even using warmers is yeah they are hot for about 5 min but if you cant keep them up to temp then it still doesn't do any good for the tire.

Okay.... that's odd cause mine are just as hot and sticky when I get in from a session as when as i go out..

And they don't slip... but okay...

One could say that yes but I am also using my own experience from when I ran race tires in the C group. Becca next time you come in from the track throw your warmers back on as soon as you can and see if they still heat the tire of if they wait until the tire cools to kick on and warm it. If they kick on as soon as you put them on, then they have obviously cooled

I always used air pressure... I'd set em at 31 27 off the warmers, then right after coming off the track Id set them back at those pressures."usually have to bleed down a pound or so" the warmers will usually turn right on regardless of tire temp because the heating element cools down when they are off. For a decent Trackday rider I'd run take offs after getting to the point that street tires won't cut it. I remember having power 2cts and getting em to hot and almost highsiding myself to the moon.

That was my main point that I was saying earlier about level of riding and lap times. Jason and Kenny have proven that high performance street tires are still capable of fast track times and they last longer then dot race rubber.

I've gotten like 5 or 6 trackdays out of the set I have now (Pure's). I've found a lot of speed in the last three trackdays (two of them being California Superbike School) and can get two more out of them with one being a light Inde day in May and one a California Superbike School day. I'm just now going to move up to Power One's (or the other brand equivalent) on the next set because they don't require tire warmers and aren't as soft on the outside as the Pure's. I don't race, I don't need tire warmers. I'm tearing the fuck out of the side walls of the Pure's, though.

You don't need to move up yet. Pilot Powers or Q2's will be just fine and you'll get at least 6 months out of them. Worry about moving up and spending all the money if you start racing or get down to 2:05's.

Try the new Superbike pro slicks by pirelli. Don't require warmers because they are a trackday tire and not a full on race tire and last forever. Problem solved. Let me know I'f u want some and I can talk to Gianni for ya

Becca, a set of pilot pures can be had for $260. As kenny mentioned I have over 12,000 front and 10,000 rear miles on them along with 2.15 trackdays [lol I only made it out maybe 15 laps last saterday] Both the front and rear are on the wear bars now. Saterday was the first time I've ever had them let go on me. The rear came out and I came way off the seat. After almost high siding off the bike it was still slapping around on me and I headed strait for becca on the side before stopping in the gravel lol. Otherwise they have been perfect tires.

Nice. My next question was going to be if anyone knew which tire was Pirelli's equivalent to the Power One's. But it does mention that they're made to last "more than one race event." That's not exactly comforting when I can still get good speed out of a different tire and get a few trackdays in on them.

found a set of pures for 269

Now next question chain and sprocket kit. Before now I have always chosen sprockets on how cool they looked and price. Looking to see whats the best for track riding should I got to 520 or stay at 525?

I'm new to gearing and am only -1 in front and that alone gave the bike so much pop over normal gearing. Matt loved Sebastian's set-up and obviously Sebastian does as well.
