:D I'm going to make the purchase in like 4-5 weeks from now!!!!:D

I need a little help in getting the best price out of the dealers (I have a choice of 4-5 places to buy from in CA). I want to make sure I don't get ripped off or anything. This is the first big purchase I have ever made. My dad bought my car and my mom did all the talking when I got the bike. I'm spoiled. :lol2: any ideas on how to talk to the dealers? I'm going to call Santa Barbara, and Brea, and going to visit the one in Irvine next weekend.
Also, what insurance are you guys with? I had progressive, but they probably won't give a good deal with a brand new sport bike....
I know I've said it a lot, but I want to custom paint it too. I don't like the red much (I think I look horrid in it). I want to get it as close to the corvette blue as possible, but it may be cheaper to do a design or something because Corvette paint probably ain't cheap. I was thinking of leaving the back plastics the red, and only painting the tank and side fairings. Don't know what design yet, but I'll figure it out.

just know what msrp is and make sure you don't pay a dime more for that. msrp includes shipping and eveyrthing. and say no to everything they offer you in the back end(when you go and talk to the finance guy).
basically do everything I didnt and youll be ok ;)

y a CA model?
Because my mom and dad are over there now and eventually I'll be going over there so its another excuse to go! And it'll be a bit cheaper as far as taxes and stuff now and I really really want to do the ride back. It'll be a good way for me to get used to the bike fast. Plus in CA the ducati dealers are everywhere and close, hence more competition!

there is no competition with recreational vehicles... why? because there recreational vehicles. Just do what richie said... Also Cali bikes just have more stupid emissions crap on them

well, I know I can't get a deal on the bike itself, but maybe what they throw in with it (helmet, jacket, etc..) or the financing I get. Plus the dealers over there know of a lot of custom painters, especially the santa barbara one.

If you plan on living in cali i would definately buy one there because it will be a lot easier to register if its a cali model unless the bike you're loking at happens to be a 50 state model.
If i had 4 weeks before i was getting a bike i would go to the dealer closest to me now and start getting to know them and tell them what you want. I would go back every week if they were cool and work them down in prce.
If it was me i would wait at least 6 months before painting it because you are pretty likely to drop a new bike just getting used to it. I would have them put frame sliders on at the dealer if possible before you even leave with the bike.

I'm definetly going to be talking to all the dealers I know of. I am eventually going to be in CA, not sure of when right now, all depends on jobs. plus the ride is so inviting, I can't really resist. And I've got a one way pass on Southwest that needs to be used soon.
I thought about waiting to paint it, but then my gear wouldn't match the paint. but that's a good idea. I'll have to know the paint scheme for sure before I buy the gear then. (I have to match)
And thanks for the frame slider advice, I would've never thought about that! Cruisers don't really have those kinda options so it never crossed my mind!

dont mention getting it painted of they will know you have more money to spend. I know of a few painters that will give you exactly the color you want and a good paint job for $500 or cheaper. No need to ask a dealer (stealer) for a recommendation. There only going to send you to some over priced place.

Im pretty sure that if you get the full fairing 800ss that the plastics will have to be cut in order to put frame sliders on.

If you have to cut for the frame sliders, it's not worth it, especially if you are getting a custom paint job...what happens when you have a custom paint job and it goes down is the whole bike will end up having to be repainted anyways to ensure that the paint matches (unless you go to an extremely specialized shop like Krazy Kustoms in downtown Phx, they keep the paint schemes for every job that they do).
If you do end up getting frame sliders that you don't need to cut the plastics for, make sure that the slider is the weak point...ie go with plastic of sometype. It will help save the bike but if you go down at a high speed you won't have to worry about the bolt breaking off causing more damage or the slider/bolt working well and causing damage to the frame.

Frame sliders protect the frame... not the paint. This is why there called FRAME sliders and not fairing sliders

^ +1 for that

so, the frame sliders are not worth cutting for? I know it probably won't help protect the paint much, but if I lay it down at little to no speed (like I usually do with the cruiser) it might help. right?
Do you really think I can get the exact metallic corvette blue for under $500? for the whole bike? That would be sweeeeet! Hopefully the guy can put together a Ducati, that's one reason I wanted a recommendation from the dealer. But if the price is good... Jerry, could you get me the info?
Blue Devil
05-21-2007, 09:16 PM
yea i can get you the info... just tell the guy the color and he can do it. With paint, it isnt the brand, its the pigments that make the color.
As for the frame sliders I say get them put on. They are made to protect the frame and just happen to protect the paint some times when when a bikes goes down. Why not try and save your bike from being totalled? The way i look at it is ill loose money if my bike gets totaled, but if the frame sliders can prevent this why not get them. I had to cut my fairings and they dont look bad at all. I dont see why people would be against frame sliders

do it.... get the sliders on there, 2 mods that must be done instantly are sliders and good tires. I am assuming the duc's have a good set of tires to begin with though

a small bit more proof to back up frame sliders. In my accident my bike went down hard. All the plastics were scratched and the frame sliders were worn down. If i didnt have the frame sliders my fairings would have all been cracked and in a million parts, my frame would have been scratched, and clutch case cover would have been busted open.
So because the frame sliders i am able to repaint my other set of plastics. If i didnt have them i would have had to buy all new plastics.
Also maybe David will chime in here. His frame sliders protected all his side fairings and he only had to replace a small part of his tail. Much better to replace a small tail part for $150 then an entire right side fairing set

Thanks guys! Is there anything else I should get on the bike? I think the Duc does come with good tires, but because I won't (or shouldn't) be riding hard or doing anything crazy I should be ok for awhile.
When I get back from CA, I'll need to get me one of those license plate things that some of you guys have that flips the plate up.

Thanks! I have thought about getting it here, but since I'll eventually live in CA, it'll be better to get the bike with the emissions crap on it. That deal they have over here is only good this weekend, and I won't be in town, plus I can't buy it for at least 3 weeks (money and I'll be in Safford for work for the next 2 weeks).

I'm sure they'll have some sweet deals on some 2006 Duc's, just because they want to get rid of them. And that place is pretty good no treating you right (Ducati Scottsdale). I am going to go to there release party for the new Ducati Hypermotard. Should be sweet to check out. I about to sell my baby next week, (Finaly found a buyer) and wanting a Duc but who knows. Gotta love the Monster's ;)
