View Full Version : Busa is no longer king

Looks as if the Busa has been dethroned by the Kawi zx14. It has 13 more horsepower and 9 more ft/lb of torque. I still dont understand the need for that big of a bike. a 1000 is plenty of power for the street and it can be ran at the track. Trying o get down through a chicane on a busa would be one hell of a site. The busa and zx14 both are fast, have long wheel bases, and most of all are ugly. Thats just my opinion. What do you guys/gals think?

The Busa was built as a go fast bike, Suzuki didnt even hide it that well that that was their only intention in building it, just to have the claim that they have the fastest street bike out there.
I dont know about ugly (well, the new ZX-14 is, but I like the look of the Busa) but it sells, every other GSX-R I see around here is the Hayabusa model. A freind of a freind up in Wisconsin had one, put two turbochargers on it and just about every other performance part you can imagine on it, set some minor records on the salt flats, though I dont remember his name, sorry.
I'm sure Suzuki will be back next year with a more powerful Busa, and it'll start being a pissing contest till we have bikes with V-8's in em...

pissing contest is right. I know the looks of the busa are for aerodynamics which i can understand but the zx14 just looks terrible. I agree that Suzuki will be back with something probably bigger and better and im lookin forward to seeing what they can pull out.
But as i do believe suzuki still hols the title for the fastest street bike as they had the busa out before the top speed was governed like the newer ones. So no matter what the power is they hold the title because the stock governors limit all the other bikes from touching it. Now its all about acceleration and not top speed. I guess im more of a road track course guy and not a 1/4 mile guy. Although both are fun I prefer a road track to anything

Yeah, I'm with you (though I dont DO any track riding) I'd rather go into a track than a quarter mile, those bikes may have power, but they handle insanely for a reason...

this year will be my first track day... after countless times to tortilla i need to hit the track but funding has prevented me in the past. This year is looking different though

i am pretty sure the 07 or 08 Busa is getting a redesign to look more like the other GSXR's. i know the 1000's get a redesign next then the busa so i bet the Kawi won't last long with the most power.

That Kawi makes a great sport tourer!

Yeah, Kawasaki makes a half decent sport bike/touring bike, the first sport bike I rode was my uncles ZX-11 and it was a pig handling wise, but I could ride that thing for hours.

doesnt a busa own the record for fastest top speed on a closed circut? prob was they discontinued the 1000+ cc class YEARS ago, as well as the 750 class (the R7 owned that class) and SUZUKI as well as the other manufactors cared more for the 600 and 1000 cc class and stopped funding the other classes.. so over the past 7 or so years, the 600, 750 and 1000 cc bikes have been more geared/designed for track performance.

and all i have to say is.. ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME!!! maybe now suzuki will FINALLY make a change after not changing a damn thing for 8 years. btw, making a busa significantly lighter is possible, just $$, you cant have an alum frame like the other bikes cause of the size/weight of the busas engine. but u can change the subframe out from the stock steel 1 to a GSXR 600 or aftermarket alum one. then all your other things.. rimes, gas tank, fairings, heck, the stock exhuast system weights a ton! as far as the 14R, i yet dont get how they get to claim to be a 14R, when they are only a 1352  oh well, im sure if u matched up a 1352 busa vs a 1352 kawi, the busa would destroy it... but hey, kawi got smart.. teamed up with suzuki a few years back, and now kawi has a 600 and 1000 cc bike that is actually pretty damn good and not this shit buckets kawi was know for producing. so good job kawi!! suzuki.. time to put the gloves back on 8)

also kris i mentioned the top speed thing:

Its a record they will always hold. Even though i think the busa doesnt look great, the zx14 is just ugly

Blue Devil I am with you. The BUSA are ugly as hell and not real fond of the GIXxers. I my opinion the attention to detail by yamaha is far superior. The new Kawi's 1000cc or 1400cc are the ugliest
