Guys check out the link below. Its long but extremly interesting. Normal synthetic motor Oil is as good a the motorcycle Oil they sell in Motorsports shop "way overpriced".

considering this is based off 1994 data when the oils and the bikes they were going in both were not as high tech as the current stuff.

if you ride a 90's bike this might effect you but for things. For the newer bikes be very careful remember we share engine and clutch lubricating systems that spin much higher rmp with more power now

There arnt much differences in oil except dino/synthetic. The main difference aside from those is the viscosity and weight of the oil. Screw the "motorcycle" oil and just put in a regular synthetic oil. I personally run Mobil 1 and i have never had a problem. Go on the Wera and CCS boards and see what they race with... i can tell ya they are not going to all say "special motorcycle oil"

i have seen a few posts over on GSXR.com about some synthetics causing issues with clutch performance, essentially they work so well it made the clutch to slippery.

Jared you are refering to the EC rating on the synthetic. Synthetics are either EC rated or non. People have noticed that the EC rated ones slip, but the non dont. Again this is only like 5% of the people that notice this. If you feel slipping go to a non EC rated synthetic.

EC rating is for the friction modifiers. If i remember correctly it is printed somewhere on the quart of oil if it is EC rated or now.

Anywho i run Mobile 1 15w-50

Oil are all pretty similar. Really the only thing that you need to avoid when using oil in your motorcycle, is oils with friction modifiers, as Jerry pointed out.

Myself, and a few guys I know that race us Shell Rotella T. It's a commercial grade oil for HD trucks and shit so it has no friction modifiers, works great, and is CHEAP. Walmart carries it for ~$8/Gal.

The only time i would suggest using dino oil is when your letting your new clutch soak in oil overnite and then for the first 100 miles or so after u put a new clutch in. Then go right back to the slippery good stuff.

I have read that Rotella is the way to go cause it's not Energy Conserving, which is what causes the clutch problems.

I use Shell Rotella in my powerstroke, and I find it hard to bealive that an oil made for diesel running a redline of 3500 or 4k rpm will hold up in a bike redlining at 15k. I use Castrol Bike Oil semi Synth

If u are going through the ride now conglomeration then i would highly suggest putting a mark on your oil filter before u go in next time just to make sure they actually change it.

My friend has an 05 gixxer6 and i put a little mark on his oil filter, he brought it in for some work covered in the maintnence package and what do u know, the mark was still there when he got his bike back.
