i wave to all of them, we are all on two wheels, even if some are slower that others.
and quick funny story, (or atleast funny to me) i was looking for one of those "neck warmer" type things since i ride everyday, and in the morning at 5 am its freezing on my way to work. so i stopped at the harley shop across from work since i never have time to make it to any REAL bike shops before they close. I find a "neck warmer" The cashier notices my suomy helmet and asks me if i ride a buell, *(sice harley riders are too badass to wear full face helmets) i said.. "nope i've got a yamaha R6, and the people around me just get silent.... then start giving me shit about riding a jap bike. i am then asked "why are you shopping at a harely store then" quickly followed by a "did you come to trade that thing in for a REAL bike by some other guy" first thing that came to mind... "well... Harely riders are pussies so i knew you guys would have the best selection of winter gear" no one laughed ... i then quickly paid and left.

I wave to everyone, even scooters. Sometimes they wave back, sometimes they don't. Mostly during my commute no one waves. On weekend rides, I have rarely had anyone not wave back.

sportbikes- always
touring- sometimes
harleys- fuk em, i'll wave with my middle finger if anything, unless its an H.A.
cops- usually a sarcastic wave, kinda like a parade wave
scooters- i just laugh cuz i work on scooters and its embarrasing enough ride one let alone own one. When im rinding one i just look straight ahead and hope no one that i know sees me. The past few days i have had to ride a few in the mornings and i have been wearing my LBZ jacket, HJC lid, and A* gloves, it has to look hilarious.

Great topic and to PlasticCupPolitics story, lol!
Anyway I always wave at sportbikes and sometimes to Harley's but then I stopped because they never wave back. When I had my ninja, this one dude was like, "Is that a real bike?". Ass.

Not to start a whole Harley bashing hijack on this...but my standard response is usually "When I feel like giving up $22k to buy a bike with half the hosepower of my 20 year old bike...I will probably keep my $22k". I have guys a work that own Harleys, couple of them have totally bought into the whole Harley image thing while some of the others haven't. I always compare it to Bently vs. Ferrari owners. Sure you can have a plush ride, low on horsepower (comparatively) and pay more. But if I had $22k to throw down on a bike it would be a Duc 999s vs a Road King (VXHRCKLTGYS or whatever the nomenclature is). Besides, now all I hear is complaints about how much they spent in accessories. $22k for the bike, $6k in accessories...how's that second mortgage feel?

I've had a lot of bikers nod at me and I see it pretty well. Nods are good when your in a turn or your hands are busy.
BTW- Harleys most of the time wave to me, but maybe that's 'cause I've got a cruiser. Choopers are the most rude, I've never seen them wave. They must think they are too cool or something.

I find it kind of funny that some of you will blanket diss on the scooter folk. Mind you it’s a different scene that you have. (Though I don’t care much for plastic scooter out autos.) I've been wrenching and riding Vespas and Lambrettas since 1986 and I can tell that it has been great fun. Have you ever dragged you knee at 60mph on 10" split rims? It’s a rush. Some of the modded out vinatge scoots are breaking 100mph in drags. I would post some vids but cant get youtube at work. Please check out some of the rallys at http://scoot.net/ (http://scoot.net/) . Have fun and ride that’s all you can do at the end of the day, wave or not.

When I was riding my Harley Sportster 883, I actually received more waves from guys on sport bikes than guys riding the big Harley's.
I found out quickly that Harley owners aren't created equal and that those helmetless, scraggly-looking Harley guys on the big baggers and customs with the big ape bars are the biggest pricks on the road and have seem to not want to relate to the guy with the 883 Sportster.
I also think that because I was actually wearing a helmet and a sport bike style jacket that I wasn't a true Harley rider, which I probably wasn't and why I now ride a sport bike.
Being usually the nice guy who waves to everyone on two wheels, while I was riding around on my Ninja the other night, I stopped right next to a group of guys on soem Harleys and gave them a head nod. I received a arrogant smirk back. Fuck them.
i think i will start a new rule. no helmet, no wave.

I have a special wave for them. I tap my head and give 'em a one-armed-WTF?.

Just kidding.
I wave to all sportbikes and touring bikes.
I don't always make an effort to wave at any Harleys because they usually don't wave back.:cuss
Always salute the PO PO.
Move to fast to see the scooters.:)
If you ride a Sportbike without a helmet, you get nada.:p

I always wave back, or do the head nod if I am not paying attention to the other side of the road.
I never initiate a wave, I feel like an idiot if I don't get a reply :shrug
