View Full Version : thinkin' about which bike I'll spend my $1 raise

I just got a raise! It's only $1, but it's still good!
Anyways...I just got back from seeing all the bikes at the long beach motorcycle show! It was great! I discovered Honda sucks. The sales people aren't helpful and the bikes are so inferior. The CBR 600RR ($9,500) is way more expensive than the Ducati Monster 695 ($7,500)!!!! I don't think I'll get that CBR after all.
The BMW F 800 ST is really awesome! It comes in blue too! I like the look and feel of this one.
I also looked at Ducati! The Monsters are pretty affordable. I also like the SS800. But these bikes need custom seats for sure! These bikes are the same price or less than most of the other bikes I looked at.
I also got to demo the Buell Firebolt XB12R!!! That was an incredible ride! I could feel the power under me! I couldn't find neutral though.... and it does vibrate A LOT, considering it is a Harley... But the vibrations can be avoided when you are familiar with it. I was gonna demo the Harley Sportster since I've always wanted one, but It was too long of a wait.
I sat on the R1 and the GXR, but they just didn't fit me right.
In the coming weeks/months I'm going to go to the dealerships and test ride the Firebolt XB12 Buell, F 800 ST BMW, and the Monster 800, and SS800 Ducati to make a decision, but what do you guys think of my choices so far?

stick with the CBR i'm not a fan of look of thoose other bikes. Especially the monster which i think looks unfinished. The BWM has the same problems as the cars which is that when they break they cost a fortune to fix, same pretty much goes for buell as you have to go through a HD dealer to get parts plus not all HD dealers are Buell dealers/certified repair shops.
Haven;t seen the SS800 though.
I think the CBR may cost more to start but over the long run reliability and part/repair cost will favor the CBR just like with honda cars they tend to last awhile when treated right.

If I was gonna pick up a McRib, I'd drive a Honda, but if I was gonna get caviar at the Ritz, I'd better be driving a BMW. Hmmm....I'd better think hard about this one!
By the way, the SS800 Ducati is like the monster, only finished! It looks more like a sport bike.

See there is your key you Drive a BMW you ride a Honda
Plus the BMW MSRP is 9,900 and only has 85hp vs the Honda at $9500 and about 110-115hp plus weighs about 50lbs less
the SS800 isn't a bad looking bike (can only find up untill 2004 model year nothing newer got a link)? but how much is it and what are the power specs?

I have to look good on it as well as feel good. It's a girl thing.
The Ducati needs more research. The SS800 is not on the website, but it's in the 2007 model brochure I got. I'm going to go to the dealer after Christmas and check them out. It's $8,495.

IMHO the Buells are crap unless u plan on Stuntin it..... Hondas definitely are not BMW, but thats the point! Honda, Yamah, Kawi, and zooks are meant to be used, not babied and kept under a sheet. You can still keep em clean but you shoudl ride em like u stole it. I have never looked over at some person an a BMW and gone thats bad ass. I usually go, hey there goes another Yuppie. Stick with the Honda out of those you said u were looking at. But like previously stated get an R1. Shoot you can still get an 05 for like 9 brand new!!!! Any ways just my thoughts. But i am biased.

I just didn't feel right on th R1 or any of the others. They aren't me. I tried! I'm not just looking for a thrill ride, I want to use it everyday too. I want a bike that's perfect for me.

I would stay away from a 1000... just a bit more power then your current bike, Id stick with a 600 as your first sport street bike. Might wanna consider how comfortable those naked bikes are on the highway with no windscreen. There top end is way faster then your current which is probably about 85mph or so, so i can guarantee you will carry a bit faster pace. I know im getting a double bubble just because all the highway riding I do.

I have a 600 and it's is starting to feel really small. I don't want to get a bike like the CBR and end up selling it a few years down the road because I need something better. That's why the bike I currently have was my first. I didn't want to get a 250 and sell it a few months later. I want a bike I will grow into.
I have to do more research on all these bikes. The dealers are now letting people do test rides. I can actually test all of the bikes I'm looking at.

there is a huge difference between a sport 600 and the 600 u have now. i promise u wont "out grow" a supersport 600, it will probably be a step up for u commin of the bike that u r on right now test ride the 600's, and when u find a place letting u test ride them let me know so i can go test ride a new r1

Call up the dealerships. They can tell you if they have a demo bike for the R1 or not. I know that in Southern CA, most of the dealers I talked to at the show have demo bikes.
I may not "out grow" it, but I do have back problems. If I don't feel good sitting on it, then it won't feel good after a long ride. I am doing about 80 miles of freeway a day, Monday-Friday. I'm going to test the BMW and Ducati's and Buell. Hopefully from that those rides I can decide if the size is too much or I can grow into it.

I got this really nice BUELL XB9R Firebolt for sale  , and for who ever said Buells are crap unless you are going to stunt them , I wonder why most sporbike magazines consider it one of the best is not the best handling track bike. I've met lot of people on Jap bikes (dot get offended I got a 600rr too) 600's and liters that cant keep up with the Buell on the track, I know the engine does not have the same power as the RR's or R's or GIXX'S but boy can it corner......
by the way heres the bike..

Dude that Ducati looks awesome, and if you can get it in fast blue even better.... I just would be concerned about parts and maitenance, that's the kind of bike you don't want to crash.

The blue would make it go sooo fast! I'm very cautious with bikes. Anyone that went on the Tortilla flats ride with me knows that. I was doing 5mph and everyone else did 35 on those curves.

Well....... I don't necessarily agree with anything magazines say, since they are all backed and paid for by the companies that produce these bikes. I was just stating from my experience on a firebolt xb12-r, that i was not at all impressed. Lots of torque not enough top end..... lower hp. But like i said a great stunt bike ask Thad on R6MN..... I also said it was just my opinion and i am biased. But i didn't like that extreme shaking b/c of the v-twin and it just didnt do it for me... And the hey we almost finished the bikebut forgot some of the plastics when we ran out of money so we shipped em anyway....

I haven't seen the Ducati SS800 yet. I sat on the 695 monster and it felt pretty good, I just need to get to the dealer and try it out. The 2 dealers that were there had demo bikes for test rides.
about the Buell, I liked having lots of torque. I am not interested in how fast I can get the bike (I don't want jail time), just how fast I can get away when I need to. Even, though I'm sure I can beat Jap bike with it.....
