Just so everybody know i will be having arthroscopic surgery on my knee tomorrow morrning to fix some stuff. at this point they aren't postitive what needs to be done so they can't give me a firm recovery time but it looks like i should be able to be ready for the start of school but it may cut it close.
Anyway i will probably not be on the board for a few days but i will try and get on and let you all know how things go

the surgeron is Dr. Murphy here in Portland. The practice is the team dr's for the Blazers and the office/surgery center is directly across the street from the Blazers practice facility so i am in good hands.

Well guys i am back home now. I got to the surgery center at about 10am, was given my 1st round of setatives about 10:40 and then they took me right back and i was out of surgery by 11:40 so about an hour surgery,
I don't remember it but i was in recovery for about an hour and a half. Apparently i woke uo more than once but was in so much pain i asked for a lot of meds which ended up slowing my breathing pretty slow. i ended up being ok and leaving about 1:30
As for what they did the 1st thing was they repaid a ragged medial plica (wasn't torn or as bad as they thought but still in bad shape) Also it was confirmed i had pulled the lateral muniscus off it's anchor point so they stiched that back up.
Right now i am home watching tv enjoying the pain meds. They have me in serious brace (the kind with the 2 side bars and dial that limits motion. I take it off to use a machine called Game Ready which wraps around my leg and pushes ice water(or cold air not sure) and squeezes the leg to prevent swelling and blood clots. Tomorrow i get a machine that will move my leg to help get me walking sooner, and hopefuly back on a bike soon too but that will probably be at least 6 weeks.
Evilbeef i will be starting with PT on friday and going 2-3 times a week.
Total recovery time should be around 3 months for full recover.
Thanks for all the support guys and i will keep you posted

you obviously aren't on enough pain meds since yo are typin just fne... with the constant movement machine you should be up in no time, my doc just gave me a S*&Tload of percocet and darvocet and said tough it out you'll be fine, and i was on te bike in 6 weeks, but seriously pace your self do the pt and take it slow and you'll be fine, gl and merry christmas

I know i am not on enough meds i have been saying that since i came out of surgery. i was on better stuff before surgery.
Plus i only got 40 pills from the Dr and when i wanted more/better stuff on thursday(2days later) i was told not and now i am out of them. going back to the other stuff.
As far as moving i have been restricted to no weight on it/no more than 30 degrees motion in the brace for 4 weeks.
So being on a bike yet alone walking fine in 6 weeks seems to be a stretch

little update:
I can now go without a brace and crutches as comfortable but i can't put much weight on the leg without the brace and i definatly can't walk without crutches. So i need to get that in line.
Also the use of the crutches has led to my shoulder injury from my accident becoming aggravted and painful and now i need physical therapy and possibly and MRI on it.
SO the result is i have no idea when/if i will be coming back to arizona. I will not be attending ASU this semester and there is some question as to if i can/will return to the school.
I should have more info in the next 2-3weeks

UPDATE: okay so things are pretty mixed right now. I am finally able to put some weight on the leg (100lbs on wed. tested by moving weight on to bent leg placed on a scale and getting it to move) and i should finally get off the crutches in the next week or two.
Now the bad news: My knee doctor is being a dick and won't give me a note for school (3 other doctors think this is out of line) and also won't give me any more pain meds even though i get 4 hours sleep with a vicodan and an ambien (half an ambien worked pre-surgery). Also becuase of the crutches i have severely aggravated my shoulder injury from when i went down back in July. So my physical therapist told me to go see somebody (i asked the knee guy about it and he brushed me off) so i went to the guy who looked at it over the summer. He says he is "highly suspecious" that something is torn/damaged and i now get an MRI next week.
so long story short i probably won't be back for at least a month but i will be in town end of March at least becuase my family is planning a vacation to Scottsdale then.
