I don't think James, PlasticCupPolitics has posted on the boards yet but our friend Brandon Lahrs with the Red R6, aka Lahrs_c on this board was involved in a serious accident today. Quotings James...
"He was involved in a serious accident this morning at the intersection of 44th st and southern right in front of his work. He was on his street bike and I'm assuming he was hit by a car. He was transported to the hospital "Level 1" which is pretty much extreme critical condition. He has many serious injuries and it will take him many months to fully recover. He is very close and dear to me and I know he has lots of friends I just don't know your phone numbers. He will be sedated all night until tomorrow but I will be at the hospital all night tonight and probably most of the day tomorrow with his parents. So if your close 2 Brandon or just one of his friends PLEASE email me your number and I will call you or text you tonight whichever you prefer. I will be checking my email constantly while I am there so it won't take long for a response.....
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.....

I called James and left a message. I will try to talk to him to see what we can do. I know how boring it can get in the hospital so lets do something for him. Chances are he will be in ICU for a bit and then transfer to regular care. Im sure he will get flowers and such from the family but i would like to organize something for him as he is a Devil Riders member. I am thinking a portable DVD player (~$40) and when I get back on january 4th we can put together a banner from DR. The girl I am dating has a HUGE DVD collection and she has offered to copy some DVDs for him as well.
If you would like to help and contribute please PM me and we can figure out a way of putting this all together.
James- Please keep me updated on his condition. I dont care what time it is, call me anytime 24/7 I want to know how he is.

I'm James... some of you know me some of you don't, but Brandon is a good friend of mine. Last I heard he had to go back
into surgery to "re-attach his colon and remove some packing from his liver". They put him in a medically induced coma upon arrival to the hospital. he's still fully sedated and he's expected to wake up tomorrow. From what i've gathered.. just from word of mouth but i dont know how much is true... A car pulled out in front of him, no one knows his speed.. He supposedly broke both legs, his wrist, crushed vertabre, broke ribs, possible MINOR brain damage or swelling and may have some internal damage that led to the most recent surgery. I don't know ANYTHING for a fact, they won't tell any body much besides immediate family. He will be ok is what i'm told but it will be a long road to recovery. This is all a risk we take everyday, it's part of riding, yes it sucks. But we take that chance. And if you can't accept that, sell your bike right now. I'll update as much as i can, and as soon as visitors are allowed i will let you know. You can email me at work at jhindman@unitedauto.com, but i will keep everyone as up to speed as i can. Ride safe.

he has been in my thoughts and prayers. When I get back on the 4th I would like to get him that DVD player as well as make a nice big banner to put up in his room. I will make the banner as soon as i return and I would like as many people as possible to come by my place and sign it. That or we can all meet up somewhere and sign it.
As for the DVD player, I figure if some people donates about $2-3 it should be more then enough. I know i will donate what is needed. Lets show him we care!

Quoting James on Friday, "Brandon is in the process of waking up, he is responding very well. The results of the cat scan showed minor bleeding but they said it will dissipate and take care of itself, “nothing to worry about yet” He is trying very hard they say, he is trying to move both arms and legs so that is a very good sign. “They say he’ll be just fine..” but in reality only time will tell, I’ll keep you informed as I keep hearing. But let’s just keep hoping for the best… I’ll let you know when visitors are allowed and etc.. but for now. take care… and if you ride, ride safe… have a good holiday if I don’t speak with you all before then."

When I get back we will get everything together and hopefully by then visitors will be allowed. Whatever leftover that is required I will pick up.

I got to see him on christmas eve, no visitors besides family are allowed still, but his mom got them to allow me in because they wanted to see if one of his friends could get a response from him. Bluntly, he looks like hell. His whole body is swollen, here are the facts: He broke both femurs, has steel rods from hip to ankle in both legs. He compound fractured his left wrist, they removed his spleen, parts of his colon and bowels. Other than that he has random cuts and bruises all over the place. He is too weak to keep his eyes open or do anything for that matter, we did get him to open his eyes several times for a brief moment, he would look around then they would shut again quickly... he knows we are there, but that's about it.. he squeezed my hand when i told him it was me.. The nurse says that he's doing better each day. They are hoping he wakes up fully within the next couple of days but with the amount of surgery he's been through already and the amount he still has left he's doing great. I wish i could get all of you in there but they don't want a big group of people in there yet. As of right now there's no point in you all going or trying to see him, his family will not let anyone in there besides me and his girl at the moment.. but like i said as soon as he is out of the ICU and in a regular room i will let you all know so we can go as a group and see him. He will need the support to recover... hope you all had a good xmas excluding news like this...

hey man thanx for the update!, im still wishing him the best

12-25-2006, 08:27 PM
yes thanks for the update. When the times does come I think it would be best to spread everyone out and visit in groups of 4 or 5. I have been in the hospital plenty of times for motorcycle related shit and there simply isnt room for more then 4 or 5. Please let us know when he gets out of ICU because it is a common practice that no one that isn't family related is allowed in the ICU.
When Jon broke his femur I was there everyday. He got the steel rod and his knee was fuckin huge. He was on so many pain meds that he was having a hard time just staying awake because of them. He has a long road ahead of him for recovery and I wish him the best of luck.
