Does it work the same way as fiberglass? Just add resin and call it good?

little more work as you have to deal with the weave and keeping the first piece as one piece unlike fiberglass which it doenst really matter. CF isnt easy at all.

my dads buddy has a CF company. He gave me a generous amount of it. All I do is buy the resin

I got mine through a fiberglass supply store in Michigan. Your better off ordering it. Auto stores have it in tiny amounts that are insanly expensive

don't forget to cure it you have to bake it.

don't forget to cure it you have to bake it.

negative... all depends on the type of resin. Just if you don't bake it takes a bit to cure (2-3 weeks for complete cure)
