james(stitchoif) is gunna love this... :P

yeah so just cruising up the 17N, at about 65, on the way back from tempe. There is a Toyota 4runner in the carpool lane and everyone around me is cluster fucked by the lead cars in the pack. So another bike comes in from the right and is kinda playin with me. well we get an opening and I downshift to 2nd and HAMMER it. I never looked at the speedo but if i had to guess i was at at least 115. Well the bike didnt follow so i immediately think fuck there were cops so i let off.

yup, 2 solid whitish yellow lights come flying up on my ass(i had slowed down to 70 by then) and light me up. the thought of running crossed my mind for a second. could have bolted at 150 to the 101 and gotten off quick. i dont have the luxury of going to jail though lol.

so they light me up and i pull off the freeway and into Fudruckers parking lot. I ve heard all these storis about people being thrown off their bikes so i was freakin out as i was taking my gear off. I realize that it is not one but two cops that pull into the parking lot and freak out a little more.

they ask me for the license etc. and the one cop goes and checks it all out while the other one bashes me for a few minutes and tells me that i should be taken to jail and the bike impounded yadda yadda yadda. they said i went 100 but i never admitted anything. just kept saying i wasnt looking at the speedo, i was lookin at the road lol.

so anyways, as much as AZIROC has bad luck with assholes, i must have the same amount of good luck with cops because they let me off with a 65 in a 55 and told me to slow down :bananadance

i knew it was a good idea to save the traffic school on that unsafe lane change a couple months ago lol.

Cliff notes: i show off to another bike and almost get arrested.

Umm, go to court, if they gave you a 65 in a 55, that means they didn't clock you. YOU WIN, no ticket for you.

If they were that willing to let you go with a 65 in a 55, that will 95% of the time mean they didn't clock you on radar (or whatever) Just go to court. It can't hurt, and plead not-responsible. Let it get a 2nd hearing. At your 2nd hearing (last chance before trial) if they still havent dropped the charges they will plea bargin the charge down to something less. (usually a expensive parking ticket.) but I would say you can get out of this just by going to court. Oh, and if your driving record is clear, that will ALMOST guarentee they throw it out.

i got a ticket for an unsafe lane change a couple months back...

so I have come to the conclusion that if your going to speed on the highway, just be going fast enough that they can't clock you lol. that is what saved my ass last time also. I went flying by so fast that they didnt have a chance to clock me and by the time they caught up, i had slowed down haha.

thanks for the info though man! much appreciated.

Unsafe lane change is differant, He can see you change lanes unsafely... He cant SEE you going 65 in a 55... He can see your speeding, but can't put a number on it.

no i know. you said if my record was clean they might throw it out. does an unsafe lane change hold as much weight, in the eyes of a judge, as another speeding ticket? because other than that, my AZ record is clean...

Hate to break it to everyone but I know for a fact that they can clock you at 119 from personal experience. Also, when I went on a ride along w/ DPS, they explained (at least the officer I was w/) that he needed a visual confirmation of the speed, a radar readout, and something or other like not losing sight of you before he will write a ticket. (although he said some officers will write a ticket anyway even if they don't have these three things and just hope it either won't go to court or take their chances w/ it standing up) So, your best chances are probably to position yourself somehow so they can't be completely sure its you, or so they might lose sight of you briefly, and maybe they won't cite you because they will be missing one of the 3 things. (Disclaimer: this is what I'm assuming, I by no means claim to be an expert in this area)

BTW, I also know it pisses the officers off too if they have to chase you for 9 miles

The judge won't actually have any say in this if you fight it. When i got arrested I fought it, plead not guilty at my arraignment and then at the second meeting they offered me a plea bargain. The guy that offers this is just some court appointed douche and then once you come to an agreement(assuming that is what you want) or he decides to not pursue it(which sounds like it will happen), you go infront of the judge and he just tells you exactly what the agreement is for the courts record and your on your way.

I got away with a $325 ticket and three points on my license for class 3 misdemeanor(was felony at first) speeding. I couldn't do traffic school because it was a criminal offense, but at most you should get traffic school.

Also, they have a chart for amounts to start with when bargaining and I'm pretty sure it didn't start until 15 over. It's not worth their time to pursue something small.

I know several cops and a lawyer (no, it's not because I'm a bad girl...) The judges are not judges at all, especially in Mesa. The are retired cops. And most of them aren't even from PHX area.

My mom got a ticket for speeding, when she was actually doing less than the speed limit. The cop had a radar, but at the time a van sped around her and that is the speed he showed. He assumed that since she was a mustang, it had to be her. And he even changed his mind about the actual speed too! He said it was his word against hers and that if she showed up, they would believe him. My mom was prepared to fight! Well, we talked to our lawyer friend and he told us about those "judges" and said she would be better off paying it.
