Has anyone here gone through any of AZ Trackday's clinics they hold Thurday evenings?

I'm thinking about registering for a cornering class and then the braking and throttle control classes and then going out on a trackday they have on Sundays and applying what I have learned.

I am not all all thinking about racing. I can't afford it. But just want to become more knowledgable and skilled with my bike.

I just want to know if they teach alot and if it's worth it. The classes are like $35 for 2 hr class. The trackdays are what? $129 / half day??

I plan to use my own bike, unless anyone else sees any possibilty not to even if I go at my own pace.

The next class avaiable is a suspension setup class. I don't know if I should worry about that class right away or wait and register to take a body position/vision or cornering class first.

It'll all help you and those guys seem very knowledgeable and experienced so good should come of it.

I suggest you buy and study at least these 2 books. keith code's twist of the wrist II and nick ienatsch's sport riding techniques. they helped me imensely and after 7 yrs i still keep rereading my copies. when you read them pick one thing at a time to learn. its too much info to abosrb and learn at once but if you pick one thing at a time and make them second nature and then start working on the next thing and so forth you will have great results.

imo the best thing you can do if you wanna learn to ride well is make friends with a rider who is phenomenally smoother and faster than you and ride with him/her as often as you can and ask for tips. when you're out on trackdays you should do the same. and as your skills increase you should continue to seek better riders to ride with unless the one you already ride with is still challenging you. after that you need as much saddle time on twisty roads or at trackdays as you can get. trackdays will teach you more in one day than several months of street riding.

In Oregon we had this free riding clinic called the Doc Wong Clinic (do a google search and you will find the original riding clinic up in northern cali by a doctor henry wong and there are several sattelite clinics) that was created to help all levels of riders become much more skilled and confident in cornering techniques. It helped me greatly in my early years of riding. I think they meet the first sunday of every month and worked on a single skill per session out of the twist of the wrist II book and it was encouraged that you keep working on that skill set for the rest of the month. It was 30 minutes of discussion followed by usually a 2 hour ride and then lunch. It would be great if a shop made this happen down here or if a group or person did. Wish I had the time, resourses, and the knowledge base to do so as it is much needed here in the valley.
